HI,
I have Benq s31v laptop and it stopped working recently, after overheating it suddenly didn't turn on. Had a repair firm look at it and they say it will cost 100-150. Is it worth it do you think getting it fixed?
Also, if I want to just recover the harddrive, can i buy some device that will connect to the harddrive?
I think it has a SATA connection but not sure, anyway I can check?
I'm not that knowledgable with laptops, so any advice ?

If it is a SATA hard drive then you don't need any special equipment. It can connect to any normal SATA connection on your desktop PC (if you have one).

Alternatively, you could get a USB caddy for the drive which are quite inexpensive.

As for repairing the laptop that depends on whether you can afford to pay for a new one and whether you feel that it is worth investing £150 in your current laptop.

HI, thanks for the response.
Is there USB caddies that support SATA and IDE too?
Is there any different type of SATA connections, I don't know whic type of SATA it uses.

Well I had left it on for a few days but not sure whether that was the issue.
When I was using it I heard the fan go pretty loudly then it wouldn't turn on.
Not sure whether it's worth getting the motherboard replaced, not even sure whether if I could replace it myself.
