Laptop - No Power HELP!

My dad took his laptop out in the garden the other day and was using it with the charger as the battery is nearly dead and only holds charge for around 20 mins. He was outside for around 5 minutes and the laptop suddenly died and didn't turn back on.

I've tried turning it back on with/without battery and there's just NO power at all. I believe this could be a possible short circuit??

Ps The laptop chargers LED light in on BUT goes off when you plug it into the laptop.

checked the fuse?

I take it you mean the fuse in the lappy PSU ? If so no, not done anything with it yet as not had the time. Just looking for some other possibilities before I take it all apart.

fuse on the plug for the power lead for the laptop

Dead battery totally and the power lead has gone?

Power lead + adapter all fine. Laptop is totally dead, when the adapter is plugged into the laptop the LED on the adapter goes out.
