My brothers gamng laptop was working fine the other day and now it's refusing to boot. The power light comes on alonrg with the back lit keys, but the monitor stays blank and even the led logo on the back of the lid doesn't turn on either. The HDD led als doesn't blink at all.

The fans will kick in after a few seconds and will ramp up to full speed... But still nothing. I've tried removing the HDD and RAM and also tried booting up using the power supply without the battery connected. There's no physical damage anywhere that I can see and my next step is to remove and reseat both the CPU and GPU.

Anyone have any other suggestions? I'm thinking worst case scenario would be a dead motherboard or GPU... Or possibly a corrupt BIOS, although my brother never touched the BIOS.

Have you tried a external monitor at all?

Sometimes you will get 2 x outputs like a DP for the dedicated gpu and then a VGA for the onboard one.

My current laptop has a DP port for the Quadro K3100M and then has a VGA port for the Intel gpu.

Unsure if this will work but if you disconnect the battery, press and hold the power button to make sure its fully depleted of power then give it 30 mins or so and try again.

Tried an external monitor using the HDMI output and left it without the battery for over an hour. I'm going to strip it and see if I can see any physical damage or burned components. The vents were pretty blocked, so I wouldn't be surprised if the GPU has gone as it used to get pretty toasty (GTX 970M).
