Hi,

I will be staying at my parents 3 days a week. I have a gaming rig at home, which is a little too big to keep moving too and fro with a 27" VDU.

So I don't know whether to get a gaming laptop or use the money to build a custom micro gaming desktop for cheaper.

A laptop is great as it can move about the house and my parents can use it downstairs.

A micro desktop would stay upstairs, but can be built more powerful for less money.

I don't know which would be the better.

Laptop specs would need to include a 17" screen and good GFX, something like a gtx 765m.

Also, what does a gtx 765m compare to a desktop GPU, I currently run an 2500k with a gtx 580.

its gtx 650 territory maybe a little faster but your not going to OC a lappy card so its not a full comparison.

i went desktop but occasionally miss the portability of a lappy.

make your standard rig an Mitx and just get a second set of peripherals then you can get more power for the money

Are you going to take the machine to your own place at all?

If no, desktop - a laptop is only useful if you don't have space for a desktop or need to be mobile. Plus a desktop is far more powerful for less money.

If yes, laptop - even a very small, light desktop is a ballache to move, and isn't designed to be transported all the time. Plus it sounds like you don't already have a laptop, and they're a nice thing to have.

Nope, it will always stay at my parents. I have my own developer machine/gaming rig with 27" at home.

Its basically so I can still game whilst away from my main rig.

I'll be playing World of Tanks, some indie steam stuff and Wildstar. Also maybe Star Citizen and Elite Dangerous when available.
