Laptop or Netbook?

Hey guys, I want something that I can have next to/on my bed for night time and morning browsing... as I have had to give up work recently I spend more time not at the computer while at home, so yes this is me being lazy.

I would only really be using it for browsing, maybe some online flash games, not any real gaming (i use my pc for that) checking emails... i imagine only really light stuff, maybe take it to other places in the house now and again.

So would a netbook be sufficient? How is the battery life ? I would probably be using it only around 2 hours per day.

Or should I just get a laptop if its going to be used every day? I dont want to have to replace it in 6 months.

Thanks :)

I've been pondering for a while, and been looking at the Dell M101Z. 11.6", Dual AMD Neo, HDMI output, nice sturdy chasis, ~ £480

Lenovo Thinkpad Edge should do nicely. 13'' ultramobile. Specs similar to my Asus UL30A, probably better built, but less battery (the UL30A's is legendary). I'd expect 5-6 hours out of it, 4+ hours with more intensive stuff.

I wouldn't consider netbooks if you have a budget of £500. 1/2 the budgetr, then fair enough, but a proper laptop is worth the extra.

Depends what you want though, i mean one of my main requirements is an 11.6" 1368x720 screen. I've never liked laptops bigger than that (my current laptop is an aged Dell Latitude LS400, and that has a 12" screen.. but a LOL 800x600!)

I've been researching almost exactly this. I ended up choosing between the Asus 1215N and the Dell M101z. The Asus has better battery and has better ION graphics (the laptop switches it on and off depending on load), but according to the reviews I read the build quality was not that good (flexing keyboard). The processor in the Dell is better (dual core AMD if you select it when you order) compared to the Atom in the Asus.

Went with the Dell. The battery life is still good if you're not watching HD video or playing games (extend it further of course by dimming the screen and/or switching off wifi) and I will doing a bit of work on it and apparently the keyboard is excellent. The battery on the Asus is phenomenal though so it's really down to your priorities.

Just waiting for my Dell to arrive (probably Monday). I can put some pics up and add some more info when I've had a play if it would help?

EDIT: The Lenovo recommended earlier by Olivier was also a strong contender. I just didn't like the styling and I don't think it has an HDMI output?

Thanks for the replies guys I'm steering towards the Dell M101z, looks perfect and the right price too.

I would probably have the battery plugged in most of the time at home so I would be watching HD movies sometimes, how much heat comes from the machine if its been on for a few hours?

hp01jpc, yeah sure I would appreciate a few pics and telling me what you think :) I won't be ordering for another 3-4 weeks yet
