laptop or OS- pls help

Hi,
I'm not very sure where to post this. I bought a new HP laptop about 6 months ago. Since I bought it, I have not been happy with it. I'm not sure if it's the laptop or the Windows Vista os.

The problems with the laptop are-
Windows seems to stop responding a lot.
Also programs seem to stop responding.
Vista takes ages to shut down.
looses the broadband connection (wired) but works after a reboot.

Can anyone pls tell me if the problem is with vista or with the laptop? I have been thinking aobut taking the laptop back.

Any advice pls?

take the laptop back, a new laptop shouldnt behave that way.

Is it a 12 inch, tablet laptop?

A friend has one and has had nothing but problems with it!

Some HPs have diags in the bios, see if you can run them?

I would check for driver updates or maybe try a fresh install.

Seems to be quite strange for a 6 month old laptop. I just bought a second hand Dell laptop and installed Vista on it and its running perfectly with no problems!

Have you tried using Windows update to check for the latest service packs, etc?

Nothing out of your problems screams hardware related, the quickest way to find out would be a reinstall I would imagine.

If you only have the crappy HP restore discs you can download a Vista ISO and just use the serial on the base of the laptop. I have a HP laptop and this is what I did because the pre-installed version of Vista they have is full of crap. (although at the moment I use Windows 7 beta)
