Im sure this question has been asked be for (if it hasn't, why not?!).

Basically my other half is looking to getting a tablet to replace her currently very crappy laptop.

I am however an absolute amateur when it comes to laptops and tablets even more so.

So im hoping one of you knowledgeable fellows could point me in the direction of which is better.

She likes the look of the Nexus 7 but again im really unsure on what is what with tablets and again laptops.

She uses her current laptop for menial things like internet browsing and reading.

Sounds like a tablet is more user friendly if you just want to read books and go on the internet.

Laptops are more useful for creating and typing documents etc and can be upgraded as needed.

One thing to be careful of is most of the non UK retailers of cheap Chinese android tablets are very dubious and sell poor quality products. Pay a bit more for a Nexus, Samsung , Apple etc and you get a much better quality product. I have a 10.1" Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 as the larger screen size is better for my needs. I used to have a smaller tab but found the screen too small for me. Give a few a try in the shops and see what you think.

Thanks for the feedback so far.

We saw an iPad in Asda the other day which was around 10" apparantly and she said it would be too big for what she wanted it for. Something or other about it being uncomfortable to use or whatever. Either way she seems happy with the 7" or whatever the smaller size is.

Judging by your feedback I think she will end up getting a Nexus 7 as from the other snippets of research ive done seem to point to that one as the better. I won't allow her to get an iPad on the basis that they are trying to milk people for something everyone else is offering. Plus she already has an iPhone so thats enough apple stuff!

Thanks again.

Any more info only adds to the help. Thanks!
