I've just brought my son a Acer Aspire 5633 laptop for Christmas, its got Vista home premium pre installed, would i void the warranty if i was to install XP on there ??

Nope - but you might struggle to find drivers and will get no support from Acer if its not a supported OS for that model.

Drivers dont seen to be a problem, Acer's site offer's drivers for vista and XP
