How many of you are using the Notebook Hardware Control Software?

If you're looking to eek out even more battery life from a laptop then I'd highly recommend this. Sits in the system tray and only uses around 5MB of memory.

I've just disabled the Dynamic Switching CPU speed so my 1.73GHz Pentium M is running at 800Mhz all the time.:D Still feels pretty nippy. Mind you, all I ever do on it is uni work and browse the web wirelessly.

Always found that going on websites with a few Flash banners would spike up the CPU Clock speed and Voltage to 100% for a few seconds. This no longer happens with no detriment to speed.

Next phase will be to reduce the CPU voltage even more with the program.

Has anyone sucessfully achieved this with good results? Do the Pentium M's have a lot of leeway with regards to the operating voltage?

I currently use it with my dell 9300. I dropped the voltage on mine to 1.1v from 1.35 which worked well. I've now got smaller laptop which i use when i go away on work so do don't use the battery much on this one any more. So now i've swapped the cpu (1.73ghz) for a 1.7ghz 100mhz fsb which will run at 17x 133mhz 2.2ghz but gets a bit hot, so i'm using the program to lower the multiplier to 15 and voltage to 1.1v to get it running at 2ghz.

very nice. My laptop with a Pentium M 1.5Ghz only lasts for a little under 3 hours on battery. will give this a go

Thanks,

Thats a nice voltage drop!

I'd be pretty happy if my 1.73GHz Pentium M's 1.35v at 100% dropped to 1.1v.

My laptop spends the majority of its time with the CPU dynamically switched at 800MHz, so if I can get its 0.98 operating voltage down, it should improve battery life quite a bit.

Can already get around 4 hours from the battery so anything extra would be great.

nice software.

Currently got it on max performance on AC and max Battery on battery.

I'm still conditioning the battery and last night managed 4 and a half hours. A few more cycles should push it a little more and when I get round to reducing the voltages I should get 5 hours with a bit of luck.

Wish I went for the 9 cell battery now!
