mums after a laptop, budget of around 800, could be pushed if the extra would be worth it. main thing for her is portablility, so light and small, all she needs it for otherwise is internet browsing, powerpoint, etc, nothing intensive but still want decent performance and no slowdown for these basic tasks. there are no specific brands she is after. help me out guys, been looking around on the web, but never had a laptop and im pretty clueless on the subject

If she is after something light and small but reasonably well specced I would suggest looking at the Philips X56 which can be had for around £700 maybe cheaper.
It has a 12.1" screen and is under 2kg. It comes with 1gig ram core 2 duo cpu and DVDRW so is well specced and nice and portable.
