My power adapter for my sony vaio gave up the ghost and I am looking for a suitable replacement.

I require a VGP-AC19V28 19.5V 3.9A 3 pin cloverleaf and if I remember ohms law correctly works out at 75W.

The problem is I search for the above and get hits that are advertised as suitable but are rated at 4.7A 90W and many only have a 2 pin connector rather than a 3 pin cloverleaf.

Would getting the more powerful adapter cause damage to either my laptop or its battery?

Thanks in anticipation

The laptop will only ever draw what it needs so you could have a 900W power supply and it would work just fine. Just make sure the voltage is close to the original ie within a volt. The 3 pin or 2 pin argument is immaterial to the laptop as it receives just a positive and a ground. The earth is just there for the outgoing power supply.
