I have a Compaq Presario CQ60 where the ac/dc transformer is shot, I was given another with different power specs from a computer shop free of charge. the specs of my original power supply is as follows...

Input: 100-240v 1.7A 50-60Hz.
Output: 18.5v 3.5A 65W

The 1 i was given specs are as follows...

Input: 100-240v 1.6A 50-60Hz
Output: 19v 4.74A 90W

1 of the guys at the computer shop said it will be fine, however another guy said he wouldn't trust it and that it could fry a chip on the motherboard or something. From what i know about computers putting too much power through the chips will destroy them. However i don't know if there is a small amount of give where half a volt or so will be a problem. both power supply's are for hp/Compaq laptops

thanks in advance for any advice

Yeah this will be fine but I would make sure its an original genuine charger, if it is a replacement or a universal just throw it away, it will damage your laptop.

I can assure you it will be fine, I manage the largest laptop repair company in the country and supply laptop power supplies world wide. You will probably find on the bottom of your laptop it will say it accepts both voltages anyway, half a volt is nothing and sometimes the 18.5v will run at 19v anyway.

Edit:

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01602064.pdf

Here is the manual, check page 90

Input power
Operating voltage 18.5 V dc @ 3.5 A - 65 W or 19.0 V dc @ 4.74 A - 90 W
Operating current 3.5 A or 4.74 A

The most important thing is that you are using a genuine original charger and not a fake or replacement.

Hi Bubba. Can you recomend me a good high capacity battery for my HP Pavilion DV6-1210SA laptop as the standard battery is a bit tired.

Thanks.

thanks

Thanks for your time and consideration. After looking through that manual i am satisfied enough to use the new ac cable. i didn't mean it to sound like i didn't think you knew what you were talking about however not knowing you worked with computers so much i was a little unsure. i do appreciate your time spent on this for me. Thanks again :) :D :p ;)
