Laptop power transformer getting insanely hot!!!

This is my first laptop so I am not sure if this is common, but my laptop power cable transformer is getting so hot I can barely touch it.

I am leaving my laptop on for long periods during the day, but i don't see why i should have to turn it off, unless they all do this.
Im worried its going to set fire or something.

its normal - some of the larger DTR laptops have fans inside the power supply (little 25 or 30mm ones) - my old laptop had a 120w (fanless) FSP unit, it was to hot to hold while gaming but still works fine after more than 4 years.

rover416i's suggestion is sound, i used todo the exact same thing - when it was new i even used to rest it on some pens to keep all sides free for air. but in the end i tended to just drop it where-ever and ignore it
