Laptop Problem

My Laptop just dies on me this morning its a Compaq Presario 2100.

I was browsing my files and the whole thing just switched itself off and now it won't fire back up

Any idea's ?

I've never opened up a laptop so have no idea what s where etc, do PSU's give up very often???

Really daft answer, but is it not just that the battery died ?

I've plug in my power lead and nothing happens, I got no idea about laptops

if the battery has completely had it will it not work if plugged into the mains??

I've had to order a new battery fingers crossed that is the problem or £25 down the loo

It will work fine without the battery. When plugged into the mains a laptop bypasses the battery. Could be the psu.

I've tried an alternative PSU which didn't make a difference, any other things it could be?
