Had my gaming laptop (see sig) for over a year and 2 problems have just came up :/

1. Speakers dont work (ie no sound) There is sound from one ear if i plug in headphones and i can also jury-rig sound from the laptop speakers if i plug headphones into the MIC socket and fiddle about with it.

But basically its borked

Solutions welcome :D Last solution is sending back to DELL and getting them to fix it and paying the hefty fee for that.

2. Playing quite a lot of bf2142 (now with no sound) i have noticed that basically the laptop keyboard isnt great for movement. e.g. i use the arrows keys and NOW occasionally the UP key sometimes refuses to move me forward in game. So im moving like a geriatric sometimes in game...

Dunno why my lappy is rebelling like this...

This unfortunately might push me back to desktop gaming....

repalce keyboard not to an expensive job quite easy to.

get an external usb sound card that should sort sound out, not ideal but certainly a fix

Surely your laptop is still under warranty? or are Dell so cheap they only offer 1 year?

they do offer over 1 years warranty, chances are the OP and most people only take up 1 Years Warranty with Dell and any other similar companies to then buy a higher spec.

thanks for the help :) I have looked at getting a special laptop keyboards like THIS

i managed to uhhh "fix" the sound temporarily somehow. :D

I can actually buy another year (or more) from DELL but can i do that knowing that there is stuff wrong with it? Or do i get it repaired first and then get another year warranty?

*bump*

anyone else manage to connect a 5.1 speaker system to a lappy? or is it just me who does this? :D

internal sound is borked hence why im going external. hopefully an external sound card setup will sort it

yes,, its not hard really.

"turtle beach" do a usb to digital out adapter that gives 5.1 (http://www.turtlebeach.com/products/micro/home.aspx)

and trust do an external box for under £20 that achieves 5.1 link not avail as thye sell other bits. not hard to find look up.

i did mention ideas like this in ealrier post.

also i had the logitec laptop keyboard and found it very uncomfortable to use, i actually use just a generic logitec type with a usb bluetooth mouse simpler.

nm got a creative expresscard soundcard xfi audiocard thing (which is actually pretty good for what it does as i do notice quite a difference in the sound quality).... unfortunately ill have to get either their own docking station for connecting to 5.1 speakers or get a mini-plug toslink optical cable thingy and *hope* i get 5.1 with that. cheaper going for the latter (£3)
