Laptop adaptor has the output lead frayed where it comes out of the brick, so the wire is exposed and inner core is shorting against the outer core unless placed very carefully. New one on order but not ETA for delivery until sometime next week = no laptop until then as the battery is down to ~25%.

Just wondering if it's possible/safe to try and open the existing adaptor to remove the output wire, cut back the frayed section and re-connect with secure wiring? The brick has fully discharged but is there likely to be residual current across the 240v side?

If it's not user serviceable then hey ho, will just have to wait but if it can be repaired would put away as a spare unit.

Might not find it very easy to open up but assuming that isn't an issue there will typically be a few capacitors in there which could potentially still hold some charge.

Think I might just strap it up with some insulating tape as a temporary repair, then as reading elsewhere it could be easy to reverse the connections and end up bricking the battery.
