Laptop Question

Buying a Laptop of my mate specs are as follows
P4 2.8ghz
1GB Ram
6oGB hard dricve
dvdrw

etc ,Paying £250 for it. Is that a good price and will i get good performance from the P4 processor as good as a desktop with it being a laptop

its a acer aspire 1600. Not sure of graphics but screen is 15inch. I will be using it as a desktop anyhow on mains all the time with minitor and keyboard of sesktop will it be a good replacement for my sempron 1.3mhz with 512 Ram as long as its faster i will be happy.
