laptop quick Q

just installed a fresh xp copy on a laptop but at the bios screen or just after it gives me 2 options of which xp pro i want to boot. the top config boots into windows but the other doesnt. could anyone tell me how to remove this?thanks

Edit C:\boot.ini, delete the offending second line.

/edit - I think your Laptop displayed the 2 OS because you had just installed it again, and because that line was still in boot.ini it thought the OS was still there so it displayed the 2nd OS and because you installed again, it added another line to boot.ini therefore 2 OS to choose from

i'd install xp again, you just installed it on the drive and not formatted it first

copy your files off that you need and do a proper ntfs format

You probably have, don't worry. It sometimes does this when you quick format instead of full format - just a random anomaly, nothing to worry about.
