Hi

old evesham vista laptop - has 2 gb - runs ok

originally 1/2 gig but a few yrs ago thought 2gb was a safe upgrade

experimenting today - put a 2 gig from a dell - pc2-640

left 1 gig in evesham -

Corsair VS1GSDS667D2 Value Select / PC2-5300 / 1GB / 667MHz/ DDR2 / 200pin SODIMM / Computer Memory

so 2 diff speeds but machine should adjust as far as i know

turned it on - 4 bit graphics mega size and slider unable to adjust
to higher spec

quick panic . . .

put old memory in and all is ok - proper graphics without any adjustment

q1) - is this a sign machine cannot handle above 2gb ?

q2) - could it be classic human error when adding ram ?

any ideas appreciated

i'm toying of getting a 2gb of exaclty same speed as the original at
the moment

Thanks

Could be that 1 of the sticks is bad and when the driver gets loaded into the RAM it gets corrupted. Do a memtest on them.
