I've never installed laptop RAM so please excuse this noob question. I've recommended to my sister this laptop: -

Lenovo 3000 N100 - RAM 512 MB (installed) / 2 GB (max) - DDR II SDRAM - 667 MHz - PC2-5300

If I buy this RAM - GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC5300 667MHz Value DDR2 Dual Channel Kit

£152.74 inc VAT

It will work fine, right? :o

No. It won't. You need laptop RAM. Desktop DDR2 RAM comes as 240pin DIMMs while Laptop DDR2 RAM comes as 200 Pin SODIMMS. IT might be a fraction more expensive though.

You want something like this;

Part Number: CT565575
Module Size: 2GB kit (1GBx2)
Package: 200-pin SODIMM
Feature: DDR2 PC2-5300
Configuration: 128Meg x 64
DIMM Type: UNBUFFERED
Error Checking: NON-ECC
Speed: 667
SDRAM Timings: CL=5
Specs: DDR2 PC2-5300 • CL=5 • UNBUFFERED • NON-ECC • DDR2-667 • 1.8V • 128Meg x 64

If you type the part number into Google you should find some suppliers. Although OcUK don't do Laptop RAM I can't suggest anywhere as they would all be competitors.

Cheers for that. Another stupid question if I buy a 1gb stick can put it in the spare slot and have 1 x 512 stick and 1 x 1gb stick? They don't have to be 2 x 512 or 2 x 1gb do they?

I'm no authority on the rules but, would it technically be a competitor if OcUK dont stock a product to compete with?

EDIT: Ok, i just read the rules again and ANY link to a site that sells things is a breach of the rules :o
