Could someone recommend me a laptop please.
It would be mainly used for movies and internet and I really want it to include:

a Centrino 2 chip
Blu-Ray drive
17inch monitor
Vista
3-4GB RAM

Weight not an issue as it wont be moved around a lot.

Thanks

Either increase your budget or lower your standards. 17" screen, 4gb RAM and a blu ray drive for under £1k is really pushing it.

You can probably get a dell 17" XPS with optional blu ray drive but thats gonne be at £1100+

Its not pushing it at all, in fact HP do them for under £1000 which I think I'll be going for but I wanted to get peoples opinions first and see if there was any other out there.

I should have specified a budget which incidentally is under £1000 so the OCUK custom laptops are way over and personally think they are overpriced.

They aren't overpriced at all. Other retailers are selling at higher cost, they are overpriced. All the models ocuk are stocking are brand new chassis, if you want to pay under a grand look at the older gen, e.g. x80r because you mind find it within your price range.

Well thats just my opinion, I've decided to go for the HP that I'd seen so should be arriving this week so fingers crossed its all ok.

since he wants a laptop for internet and movies, and the cheapest custom ocuk do with a 17" screen is £1.5k, id say they are over priced for what he wanted.

as far as pushing it with a £1k budget goes, not at all. there are quite a few models with a bluray drive for under a grand. some for around £800. hell mine was just over £1k delivered and mine has a dual layer bluray writer.

Thanks, just out of interest, what have you got??

I was looking at the Acer's but like I said I want a Centrino 2 chip but these don't have them or certainly not within my budget I think.

i have the VAIO fw-11s :) not sure if i can link to the sony site as they sell them direct, but it isnt hard to find on there. certainly, out of all the models i looked at, the sony stood out because of its widescreen lcd (16:9, perfect for the movies) and its magnesium alloy casing. And of course, for the price, the bluray writer.

That one has been mentioned a couple of times to me but as much as I'd love to get that one, sadly its out of my budget range. How does the Blu-Ray writer perform?? Have you used at all??

Then you're looking at the new Toshiba G50 lappy then, can be found for about £1040ish. Don't think you're gonna find better with your budget. Def go with the 18" screen though, they're lush

I ended up getting a HP DV100EA, got a good price on it as well. First 2 that came were faulty, 3rd time lucky though, it seems to be running ok. Pretty impressed with it so far.
