Right I have convinced my friend to upgrade to a pc instead of buying more laptops.

Budget: £700-£750

The main uses of this is to do light gaming watching films and occasional video rendering (once a month)

Things not required are:

Monitor
Keyboard mouse
OS
HDD

Things wanted:
SSD for OS

Thanks for the help

Bluray?

Then drop the CPU cooler and stay at stock, at least for a while.

Rest should be good to go. Case is good but looks may not be what he is looking for (blue lights). The Fractal R3 is a good replacement if he wants quiet and understated. Drop CPU cooler to fit into budget.

If we dropped the graphics down to a Club3D HD 6950 2048MB would it be wise to use the extra cash to upgrade the mother board to

Gigabyte Z77X-D3H Intel Z77

Thanks

I stopped bothering about dual cards. Not with 1080p anyway (or 1200p for that matter).

You need good case airflow, good motherboard, and a more powerful PSU. Personally, I wouldn't bother. The PSU can take a 6950.

Then again, you can score a 6950 second hand for not much money nowadays if you are thinking of saving money. They are good cards.

Right thanks Oliver looks like I will go with your spec hope to pick it up on Friday

Is there any difference between the 6950 and the 7850?

Thanks again.

Good luck :) That should be a good build.

Look for parts that are out of stock. You can replace the cooler with say, the Matterhorn Pure, Gelid Tranquillo, or CM 212 evo.

Or even a cheaper cooler like the Gaia and the Zaward Vapor. Should give you decent overclocks while being relatively quiet. But the TS120 is my fave (MUX120 is quite similar).

Or you can buy the cooler later since the CPU has the retail fan.

Right my friend has said that he will stretch to £830

What should I swap out to utilise this money maybe ram etc or motherboard.

Thanks.

Right then I'm going to order this for collection on Friday at 1 pm as I will be going by the depot at that time how does this look

All compatible? Good decision?

Thanks again and thanks Oliver for your help.
