Laptop Screen broken

Hi. I've been asked to fix a laptop by a friend but i'm not sure what part is broken.
The screen has pink lines going across on any white part and is showing odd colours. It works fine using a external monitor.

Does anyone know if this is a LCD cable problem or could the screen be broken?
I've attached 2 photos showing the problem.

could be the screen, the cable or the motherboard, if you press on the laptop in random places does the colour pattern change?

definately either the screen itself, or the cable.

I would say cable, I have seen similar artifacts from not plugging in my cable correctly.
