Hi All

I am currently experiencing a major problem with my laptop. When I start it up everthing is fine, runs through the Windows logon and goes to my desktop. The problems start the minute I try and do anything in Windows (running XP home). My screen will start to flicker black from the bottom to about 3/4 way up. This will continue but when I shut the opened programme down, it will disappear again. If I leave it to flicker, the screen will eventually fade to a light green or purple colour and it will just hang. I then have to switch the laptop off at the power button.

I have tried hooking it up to an external monitor and the screen appears perfectly normal on the external monitor but still flickers away on the laptop.

I have tried reinstalling the graphics drivers but to no avail. Does anyone have any ideas to this infuriating problem?

TIA

they can be replaced, not really repareable items, the screen is the most expensive part but easier to fit, you can take it to a laptop repair place but i guess it wont be cheap. doin it yourself will be cheapest but does require a bit of knowhow taking them apart.

Thanks Beermonster, think I will take it into a repair place and see what they say. Strangely, I closed *** laptop when it was on last night, flickering away still, and just sort of pressed down all the way round the laptop. Opened the screen back up again and the flickering was gone.

Haven't switched it on yet today to see what it does, I am sure I know what it will do though.

Thanks again

As beermonster has rightly stated it is probably the harness cable which supplies the data to your screen. It has most probably come loose.

If this is at fault any reputable honest firm would do it for 1 hour's labour (usually about £30), a replacement depending on model should usually cost in the region of £15 and £40 plus labour.
