Laptop Screen going colour crazy

A chap I know has a dell laptop which around 2-3 years old. Anyhow, this past week the screen would go a redey colour or even green etc all of a sudden.

If you were looking at a white page on the screen, it would actually look pink. He gets this as soon as he switches the laptop on so I presume its a hardware fault such as the graphics and not a software/driver problem.

Because it has integrated graphics, you can't try another one and it could also be the lcd and again,.

What can I do to try and determine the actual fault? If it is the graphics, then I imagine he will have to buy a new laptop.

Yeah I would say it is hardware rather than software. As a guess, it might be to do with the power connection to the TFT. If the voltage changes it could change the screen colour??

If it's changing colour to green and red etc then it's probably the LCD cable that's worn out, or the panel itself is breaking although the latter is much less likely.

Also, it would only be the graphics I think if only parts of the screen were changing colour, if it's the whole screen changing colour then it'd be cable/panel problems I think.
