Hi all i got a new laptop last christmas and i am wanting to give my old laptop to mother for crimbo but the problem was there is no screen its just black, a friend or a friend looked at it last year and he said he blew out fans but after a month or so was just the same, just switched it on and still the same, i tool to work and used air lines to blow out but nothing, the laptop is a HP G6000 any ides ? not sure weather to take to bits and see if blocked or something but u think it would switch on before overheats lol so not sure at all

Thanks Dean :D

Hi, have you tried plugging a external monitor into the VGA port on the Laptop?? Try this and fire it up and see if the laptop is actually booting. Also you can try taking the battery out and fire it up on the mains adaptor only and see if it boots ok as the battery can be a problem sometimes.

If the laptop fires up on an external monitor, then you have a problem with either the inverter board is faulty, the LCD panel itself is faulty or the cable/connector is faulty.

Hope this helps and post back with your results.

could well be a loose cable,
I had a similar problem and opened it up to find the cable loose.

don't understand how it was but worked after that.

worth a thought

G6000 suffers from an overheating nvidia chip, more than likely that. Will likely require a replacement mainboard. I did manage to fix one at work the other day by using a heat gun on the board (forget what model of hp)

ok so i tryed plugging into my tv and it doesnt boot up at all it says no signal on tv and it sounds like laptop trying to boot then goes dead and tries again but nothing happens at all any ideas ? also tried without battery but nothing

thanks dean

Are there any beeps from the laptop when you power on? These are error codes, I do believe it is 1 long and 2 short beeps if the IGP has gone.

I would guess that puppet is right, if the screen was dead it would still output to a secondary display. I recently "reflowed" a HP laptop, it is a lot of hassle stripping it down and messing around with the ribbon cables, especially for what is essentially a temporary fix.

Yep, gave up reflowing and trying to software undervolt the cpus etc.. to keep temps down.. it just happens again eventually lol.

no beeps from laptop just hear it booting and going quiet etc like i say plugged it into mt tv and put on the correct channel but says no signal and nothing happens u recon trying to strip for a look ?

also thnks a lot for help so far

Well you should atleast get a beep to confirm it has posted (power on self test).

Definately remove the battery and just run it off the mains. Dying batteries cause all kinds of woes.

If we are assuming that it is booting but the screen is dead. Check the keyboard for the monitor output shortcut. On my dell it's Fn and F8 together (F8 is labelled in blue CRT/LCD) for your laptop it could be different. See if that gets a result bud

no joy at all tried plugging in and pressing fn and f4 llooks like a screen but nothing and plugged my working laptop in to tv and came straight on also tried without battery but same just keeps booting over and over with nothing on screen at all
