Ive just been given a notebook a dell inspiron 9400 and when you power it up the screen is blank. I thought the screen may have been faulty but if you look really closely you can see the windows logo during boot and the desktop.

I'm not very familiar with notebooks but could this be the screen inverter or would i require a new screen panel?

Sounds like its the inverter that powers the back light, check the connections first to it under the screen bezel, then try a new one, its the cheapest part to try first.

I got an inverter this morning and have fitted it and it works sort of. I dont think i have the correct inverter. it fitted ok and looked the same as the old one but i have 2 problems now. I can get into windows and see everything but there is a blurry block line about 2 inches up the screen from the bottom. When i move the cursor around the screen or open a window this blurry block changes colour.
When i try and adjust brightness using FN and arrow up this lowers the brightness and arrow down increases brightness.

I just phoned the place i bought the inverter from and they have suggested that i either bought the wrong inverter from them or that my screen panel is faulty. Any suggestions?
