Laptop screen problem

Hey guys

Today I woke up, turned laptop on.. and my screen was like that (in picture) and I haven't a clue why but if I connect the my monitor it displays fine (see picture)

Anyone know why, a solution?

Faulty screen or maybe a faulty cable that connects the screen to the motherboard.
Worth changing cable first if you can pick one up for under £10.
Dont suppose you could borrow a mates laptop to swap the screens over to test?
