Laptop screen Res v Desktop Res

My bro got a rock direct laptop the other day with a 17inch 1680x 1050 screen, the screen i ssooooooooooo sweet i love it, and then i thought, if you can get a 17inch widescreen 1920x 1020 screen why cant you get similarly high res pc screens at that size?, because i love the sharpness of the desktop and hl2, its freekish.

Get a 20" Widescreen LCD, should do what you ask for dude

yeah well theres that but my point is, why cant 17inch widescreen desktop monitors have the same res as my bros laptop?

I know what you mean, my 2 years old Dell Laptop has the same res as my brand new Philips WS, and the Dell is 15.4", with the same desktop area.

The down side thou it is a TN panel, the Philips has much better colour reproduction.
