My screen for my Toshiba laptop has just gone, are they reletively easy to fix?

Dont have any warranty unfortunatley.

Yeah, they're easier than you might think, though you need some patience and a gentle hand.

What exactly is wrong? Are you sure it's the panel and not something else?

I dropped it the other night. I've connected it up to my tv through vga so the rest of the system is fine.

The screen goes white and then goes multicoloured. Stays like that then.

I'd say it should be fine to just change the panel then. You'll need a bit more info on your exact model, but you should be able to source a panel relatively cheaply (around £70-£150) depending on size. Laptop parts companies are OK, they can confirm the screen will work with your model too, or there's always auction sites for potential bargains. Then you need to prise off the fascia and relevant screws, CAREFULLY remove the screen without breaking any data/power cables. They can be quite short, so be really careful. Then just swap over the connections and do what you did to get it apart in reverse.

EDIT: forgot to mention, for the love of all that is holy, please remove the power cord AND battery, or you could have some real trouble. There was a right muppet on here a few weeks ago who left his battery in when changing the gfx I think.

try the connection cable if the screen has no cracks before buying a new screen.

This^^

I had a similar problem (without the dropping) and found out after taking it appart that the cable to the screen had been dislodged slightly, pushing it in and pushing the tape back and that was it.:)

Sry for the late post, no internet.

This is my laptop:

This is the website which ive been looking to buy my replacement from:
http://www.lcds4less.co.uk/models/toshiba/portege/r500/toshiba-portege-r500-laptop-screens.html

Will the r500 screen mentioned at the top still work with my particular model? (r500-100)

Also will any 12.1 inch screen work with my laptop or does it need to be an exact model?

It will need to be the same spec but not necessarily the same manufacturer, but I would try and get the same tbh as these smaller screens seem to be a bit more fussy than more popular sizes such as 15.4 where any generic screen will do.

How good is that, it was the cable that was loose, screen back to normal.

Cheers for that advice, could have spent loads replacing a perfectly good screen.
