Hi

I used to post a fair bit in here but haven't for a while!

One of my friends has asked me to get a laptop with a budget of £900, absolute maximum of £1000

He plays a fair amount of games, although they're not that intensive (DOD:S, CS:S, etc)

I've found the following from a well known manufacturer for £999 inc VAT - what do you think?

Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 2.0GHz, 4MB Cache
WXGA (1280 x 800) X-Glass
NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600 256MB
1GB DDR2 667MHz (512MB x2)
120GB 5400rpm SATA
8x +/- Dual Layer DVD Writer
Windows XP Home
Free Pakuma Akara K2 Case (black/brown/green)

With a 3 year warranty

His current laptop is an A64 3200+, 512MB ram and a mobile 9700Pro and he was happy with it although wanted faster graphics. The Go 7600 should surely be a fair bit quicker? He's replacing it as his current laptop has given up the ghost

HI, a cheaper option with even better graphics is the fujitsu siemens amilo xi1546 i bought one for £860 (with free carry case which isn't mentioned on the web site). specs are:

Intel Core 2 Duo T5500 Processor 1.66GHz
1024MB DDR2 RAM
80GB hard drive
17” TFT WXGA CrystalView display
DVDRW Dual Layer Optical Drive
Integrated Wireless LAN (IEEE 802.11 b/g)
Intergrated bluetooth
256MB ATI Radeon X1800 Graphics
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
FREE Premium Games Bundle
(including King Kong and Prince of Persia)
12 Months Collect & Return Warranty

In the future i plan to upgrade to 2GB of RAM (should cost around £120 but i will sell my current RAM to save some cash. I can also add a second HDD and put in RAID. For gaming this laptop has been excellent. The only problem i have found with it is the keyboard is a little bit flimsy but only on the right hand side (the numberpad)
This is just another option you should look into with google

i think you've quoted a Desktop machine mate, as originally when i saw the graphics card i thought "NICE!, a X1800 on a lappy" but then it mentions a 17" TFT there... then i thought hmm
EDIT: nevermind it is a laptop im wrong :o
very nice spec for the price i'd say.

Do Intel make a 1.66GHz C2D for desktop pc's as I thought the line started off at 1.86GHz for the E6300? if they dont it has to be a laptop spec. Maybe its just a 17" LCD on it?

edit sorry posted at the same time as above post was edited...but intel seem to have a lower end processor than the e6300, is this recent or just come out?

Intel Core 2 DUO E4300 "LGA775 Allendale" 1.80GHz (800FSB) - Retail Intel Core 2 DUO E4300 "LGA775 Allendale" 1.80GHz (800FSB) - Retail

all I can see different in this is the lower clock speed and FSB than the E6300.
