I hope this is in the correct thread

Just spoke to a salesman at a well known computer store who told me that this laptop:

HP Pavilion 17-e153sa 17.3
Processor: Intel® Core™ i5-4200M (with Intel HD Graphics 4600 (2.5 GHz, 3 MB cache, 2 cores)
Windows 8.1
Memory: 8 GB
Hard drive: 1 TB

Would not be good enough for Google Hangout/Skype and Video/Mic conversations because it didn't have a dedicated graphics card

Is he right? I find it hard to believe to be honest because I'm not interested in 'gaming', just online browsing, streaming movies from Youtube and Skype/Google Hangouts with cam and mic

Any info would be greatly appreciated and thanks for your time.

It will be absolutely fine for Skype/Hangout video calls. Even my creaky 3-year old Dell work laptop (which has an i5-M560 processor, 4GB RAM and the original 'Intel GMA HD' graphics) is fine for that.

I think the phrase "salesman at a well known computer store" tells you all you need to know. He was just spinning you a yarn to push you into a higher spec machine. :D

Funny you should mention that, because about 5 minutes later he pointed out he had a similar laptop with better specs...at only £350 more

If only I could find Windows 7 drivers for it. I really don't like Windows 8/.1

At the risk of being called a worry wort, what do others think? I'll have no problem with the above laptop on Google Hangout?

It's over £500 so I would like to cover all bases and be as sure as I can be about this purchase.

Selekt0r is 100% correct, you'll have absolutely no problem on Skype or Google hangouts.

The most charitable interpretation is that the "salesman" didn't know what they were talking about in the slightest. More likely, unfortunately, they were trying to con you. I'd love to see more punishments for that sort of mis-selling.

Take it from someone who likely worked for the same chain 15 years ago - the salesman is talking out of his behind. He wants you to buy the more expensive one becuase either 1) there's a bonus payment to him on selling them and/or 2) he gets more commission from the sale.

If Google Hangouts, Skype etc leverage the advanced 3D graphics acceleration of a gaming card I'll eat my own hair.

I can't find windows 7 drivers for it anywhere

Are there any? Can't believe Microsoft are forcing their products on customers - well, I can, but you know what I mean.
