Can anyone help me spec a laptop for a friend?

His requirements are "Ideally laptop, but i'm fussy and would want a built in digit pad, not fussed about Vista or XP, 15" or 17" monitor (preferably 17") min 1GB memory, hard drive is not important as I have the QNAP and an external 320 WD Hard Drive. Budget no more that £550. Gaming not important as I have decided it's too much trouble to play keep up with the industry just gonna stick to the 360. Duo core processor important"

He's been looking at the Toshiba Satellite P200-13Z so far.

Thanks for any help, I know nothing about laptops....

have a look at the Dell Vostro range of laptops. Just specced one for me over the phone as i got to choose Vista premium and a free laptop bag and free shipping for £733, specs as follows:

C2D 7100 (1.8Ghz)
1GB RAM
160GB HDD
17" screen
Bluetooth
Wireless N
Geforce 8600m 256MB

I should think you will be able to spec up a fairly decent lappy for £500 if you keep the 8400 graphics card and a slower CPU. Oh, and definately buy over the phone as they can offer better discounts and alternatives to a free carrycase, like a printer or somthing.

Hey,

I spoke to Dell again and told them i wanted the bare minimum hardware spec with no software etc. got a price of £675 for the same spec but with Vista home basic and no lappy bag (already have ultimate anyways!). So, phone them and tell them what you want, no "free" stuff or any of that and the price goes down! lol
