Good day Overclockers!

As you can guess, i want to invest my hard earned notes on a gaming laptop so i can play games like Skyrim on it in the comfort of my living room rather than secluded in my dungeon alone on my Desktop.

I havent ever bought a gaming laptop before but i have done the usual week long research before you all for advice too.

people seem to be saying that the 7970M is the top card to go for but so many more options are availaable with 670's or higher nvidia cards... whats the real difference likely to be like?

I want a SSD drive for sure but no need for more than 128GB anyway as i will only have windows, a game and maybe word documents anyway since i can link everything else up with the home network.

Also weight isnt an issue as tbh, even the heaviest laptop wont deter me so long as i get something good enough and without having to fork out a whopping £2000.

I'm hoping you can suggest a quad core, with an SSD and a good enough graphics car for no more than £1500 and even best nearer the £1000 mark :)

your opinions would be greatly appreciated as always people.

If you are gaming on a laptop in your living room then you will be having it on your lap?
If so then it will get hot, noisy, crap battery life and you are forced to use the in-built keyboard and the track pad mouse.

Perhaps I have missed the point, but you either need to game at a desk or get a games console.
I really would avoid a gaming laptop unless you travel a lot.

ok sorry maybe i was going a bit over the top saying what i did, i would be at a table or using a laptop cooler anyway and i have used a mouse on a hard surface wherever i sit so i'm sure i could find a way...

i have a gaming rig which is perfectly fine but all i'm trying to work out is if i could get a laptop which i would still take around with me to the office or on trips to old relative etc as well... i would probably use it loads at first lol and as with most things lose interest in 6 months or so lol

I just bought a GX60, shove a SSD in there and job done. After christmas i will stick two momentus xt's in it for a raid 0 setup. I am student and i take it with me for work, it was a justified purchase in my case.

why do i have to justify it? lol i want one... i'm a very impulsive person :)

Thanks matt... i'll look in to that... what games have you been a ble to play on it so far?

I'm kinda thinking the same thing as you, as I want to get a good gaming laptop that I can use, where I don't have to be stuck in one place using it, I've been looking into it, and so far my heart is pretty much set on a clevo p150em with an i7 3610qm, 8gb of ram, and either gtx670m/675m or a 7970m, depending on what I can afford when I've saved up enough :)

lol if you're like me then admittedly i wouldnt be using it all the time for games but i want the option to use it for games on those occasions when you simply dont wanna be in the same place or away from the rest of the family for a whole day at a time lol.

the 670... is that actually good enough? thats the one i see most on the cheaper side.

Seriously though, overclockers have even proved that the GX60 is exactly the same in GPU intensive games involving 1920 x 1080 res, an i7 with the 7970m is way too expensive. I will recieve my GX60 tomorrow, i will bench it with skyrim and let you know what it runs like, however, i will make sure it runs 50 - 60 frames, i reckon it will do high settings.

If you can show me Guild Wars 2 running with the same preformance as a i7-3610QM I will eat your hat

i wanna laptop to play skyrim... and i wanna get in to world of warcraft too :)

i have only played guild wars one before and tbh i didnt really like it but i would try guild wars two as well :)
