Thinking about selling my iPad and getting a laptop.

Will this spec be good and fast for just general laptop usage?

- Intel Core i3-3217U 1.8GHz
- 4GB RAM + 500GB HDD
- Intel® HD Graphics 4000
- Windows 8 64bit

£400 (maybe add a SSD too)

Or should I go i5 for £100 more?

I think any i3/i5 would be fine for general usage.

SSD would really help though, if you can stretch to it.

Graphics is largely immaterial unless you're gaming or otherwise doing something that needs it.

Is portability on your list of wants? Or getting the most from Windows 8?

Have a look at the Asus Vivobook s200e Core i3 model.

Very reasonably priced too. :)

That's what I am looking at :) I have Win8 on my desktop so not that bothered about OS and will be in the house most of the time, taken out now and again.

Kinda want the bigger screen you get with the i5 though. Although 11" is bigger than my iPad screen.

Not a fan of the HP/AMD.

Why not? I can find it for under £400. It's on par with the i3 and it is gaming capable. I know this as my friend now adores me as he can play Dirt3 on the commute home (on the train) whilst his colleagues look on and make do with boring facebook updates ;)

I've just got it. Barely played with it yet but it seems very solid. I want to put an SSD in at some point but will wait for a month or two. Only thing that (as per usual) has annoyed me so far about it is Asus bloatware... but apparently their's isn't nearly as bad as some of the other OEM's
