Laptop SSD

Some SSD drives come with a jumper for flashing newer firmware... does your drive have this? if so, is the jumper on the correct pins?

Has the drive been formatted and does it contain a partition?

If you have another computer, you can connect it as a secondary drive, you can then check it in Disk Manager, or put it in a USB caddy to connect to your laptop with the original drive fitted in the lappy (assuming windows is still live on it).

need to do this...:)

You shouldn't need to that, and it won't make a jot of difference.

If the drive is being detected at all then that means the BIOS isn't picking it up, so the partition table on the drive is about as relevant as what colour socks you're wearing.

What drive, and laptop?

By connecting to another machine or via a caddie, he will at least be able to verify that the drive is working or not... It may not be compatible with his laptop bios/controller... or it maybe a faulty drive.
