Hey guys,

One of my laptops is failing to start :o

When I switch it on, it gets as far as the Windows loading screen and then I get a very brief bsod before the machine restarts… Then I get the usual choice of start options – none of which work? Safe Mode gets so far, kicks out a bsod and reboots?

I reckon it could be memory failure?

Anyone got any other thing I could try out before I head into town tomorrow :D

Cheers,

SW.

Google for Ultimate Boot Disk. Lets you test all sorts of things.

It also might be worth seeing if it boots with a Linux Live CD, it's possible just a knackered windows install, nothing wrong with the hardware at all.

could try recovery console, boot with an xp cd (if your using xp) and press R when you see the option. You will be prompted for your admin password which should be blank (just hit enter) unless you have set it otherwise. Do a chkdsk /r once your in.

[edit] of course your using XP, it's in the thread title :)
