About 7 years ago I bought a Gigabyte P35w V2 laptop. Great beast, until I found out the hard way Gigabyte don't belive in right to repair. The keyboard got damaged. Turns out Gigabyte wanted almost the price of the laptop for a replacement. At the time I decided to just wait and see if I could source a replacement. Fast forward to this year. The laptop battery is pretty much dead but she still games pretty well. I check ebay by chance and find a replacement keyboard and battery. I snap both up for less than 100 and spend the afternoon setting them up. Full disclosure while I had the laptop open, I took a dust blow to it, removed the fans, the heat sink and applied some fresh thermal paste.

Booted it up and for the first 30 mins, all fine. Cpu and gpu temp sat at 50c. Not awful for a laptop. 4 hours of battery life, life is good. Then moved it off my laptop, heard a click and it shut down. Then it booted up again. Got to the bios and it click shutdown again. Rinse and repeat.

Any ideas what's happened? It feels like a short, but I'm not confident. Plan is to take the battery out and see if I can get it to boot from charger. The battery is meant to be new, but its also meant to work against the g series as well so maybe the seller took some liberties. Oh and the keyboard works fine.

He shows you how to do repairs on laptops, amongst many other things. Might be worth a gander to check if you missed anything. Trying without the new battery is a good idea.

Thanks, I'll take a look. Update.

Disconnected the battery and same issue. The only thing I can think of now is that either the ssd has died or the motherboard shorted somehow. I can't even press f8.

One thing I noticed is that when left alone for a bit it starts to work. I got to a windows 10 recovery screen after having eat it, so it's possible its the heat sink, but having checked it I would be surprised.
