Laptop stuck repeating a key?

Hey guys

Im fixing a friends laptop, issue they have is the hash key is stuck on all the time, ive tried holding shift and i get the '~' symbol so it seems to be key related rather than an OS virus or something?

Ive taken the key off and cleaned the area, given the key a firm tap, and taken the battery out and drained the laptop before restarting, all to no avail


Any advice on this?

tried disconnecting the keyboard ribbon and attaching an external keyboard? Will give you a 100% certain its the keyboard and re-seating the keyboard ribbon may resolve it, else new keyboard.
