Hi,

I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop which I bought new just over a year ago. Was working fine yesterday. Turn it on today and the display reads-

"Intel UNDI, PXE-2.1 (build 082)

For Realtek PCI Fast Ethernet Controller v2.17
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-MOF: Exiting PXE ROM.
Operating System not found"

Windows will not start. The only thing I can think of is that I knocked into the laptop when I was sleeping as it was next to me last night. This could have maybe knocked out some wires within the laptop?

Anyone have any ideas as to what the problem is?

Thanks

Well it sounds like it is trying to boot from network.

( well it is trying to boot from network. )

Do as UKDTweak says,

If it is there go into your boot order and make sure the Hard drive is set as the first device to boot from.

also make sure no keys are stuck on keyboard as F3 on a dell is boot from network.

In the main section in the BIOS.

Hard disk drive [None]

So it looks like as you have said either it has failed or been disconnected. Is it advisable for me to open up the laptop? I've installed various components in desktops but never opened up a laptop before.

the laptop should have its own compartment on the bottom. I don't think you'll invalid any warranty by opening it

I opened it, took out the HD and put it back in. It now boots to windows :D Must have come unconnected at some point during the night.

Thanks for everyones help.

just as a precaution, open the compartment again and boot the laptop up, make sure there is no abnormal noise such as a loud ticking noise coming from it. The normal access noise is fine. Because thinking about it there shouldnt be any room in the compartment for the hard drive to become disconnected from the connector

All I could hear was the normal access noise. So hopefully everything is functioning now.

Thanks again.

you would think but depends what model it is i think Toshiba A100 or A110 had a bad designed HD cover on the early revision and the HD could come adrift if jolted sharp enough.
