Hello
Wasn't sure of the best forum for this question...
I have a problem with an acer laptop, an Acer Aspire 5602 WLMi. After 1 month of ownership it has become very slow. Programs either take a long time to load or don't open at all. Browsing my computer is very slow. Listening to mp3's either takes a long time to start or they don't start at all. Same for videos, although they work less often.
Before sending it back to Acer I want to make sure that it is not being caused by software. To do this I thought that I'd restore it to the factory default.
This leads to my problem. The Acer eRecovery program will not open under windows and neither will windows' own system restore program. I can access the DOS version of Acer's recovery software but I do not know the password. I have been advised by Acer support that the default is six 0's (000000) or on newer models it is set by the user (no password has ever been asked for). Does anyone know of a way around having to enter the password?
I have also been told that using the system CD's to perform a system restore does not require a password. I'm pretty sure that no such cd's were supplied, but there is no way of me proving this to Acer. They will send me replacements, but at a cost of around £50, which I'm not willing to pay.
Final question,
To me this sounds like either a disk or memory problem (if it's hardware). What are the best programs for testing these are functioning correctly? I am aware of memtest for RAM, but am not sure what is best for hard drives.
Sorry for the long post, any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers
Phil
