At home we recently got a 32" Philips HD-Ready LCD screen. It has a DVI connection below for anything with DVI output (such as HD-SKY when it comes out). What cable would i need to connect my laptop to this LCD screen?

I have seen several types, but unsure which is the right one as they all seem have different pin configurations in the sockets.

IF your laptop has a DVI connector, then you will need a DVI-D to DVI-D cable. Do not get a DVI-I as these have an extra block of connectors allowing analogue usage

If your laptop does not have DVI, then it will most probably have SVideo. Get yourself an svidio to SCART lead. Picture won't be as good, but at least it will be viewable for movies.

Remember - for sound, you need to connect your line-out to the phono-in of the TV, otherwise all sound will come via the laptop's little speakers
