:confused:Hiya guys,

My friend has a Toshiba Laptop. Basically for the last 3 months he has used his laptop but has a Samsung 24" monitor as the screen. He finds this easier as it doesn’t hurt his eyes etc.

However, for some strange reason it has stopped working!?!?! Basically when he turns the laptop on the monitor works. When he comes to the log in screen the monitor is still working but when he puts in his password and clicks log in the monitor stops transmitting and says 'no signal'.

I Thought it would be driver issues so he re-formatted and had it working as it was 3 months ago. Still nothing does the same thing. He hasn’t changed anything and the cable must be working as it shows everything up until he logs into Windows 7.

Were both at a loose end!

Thanks guys.

Disconnect the monitor, and use the laptop monitor to check the monitor settings. Something might've changed. Try the monitor with another PC if you can, and just in case, try another cable.

the monitor works with an xbox 360 and a ps3. The monitor works up until he clicks login and then it goes off. It displays everything up until then so i can't see how it could be the cable.

Did you check the settings for the monitor as per Orcvader's post? Maybe the screen settings have been altered to a value that the monitor does not support.

Can you use both monitors (laptop and external) together? Does the machine recognise the 2nd screen once booted into windows?

Sounds like a windows display setting thats killing it. Try opening the laptop and using the FN and F8 CRT/LCD (normally shows a monitor icon) key and see if it works cloned.
