Not quite sure if I've posted this under the right forum. Basically, I have a laptop and a netbook. I've got like 40GB of data on the laptop which I need transferring to the netbook. Can I do this with a CAT5 cable or any other options.

Thank you (and OC forums rock) :)

If you have the laptop and netbook attached to a network using cat5 cables and a network hub / switch / router , then you should have no problems transfering the data.

You can't just connect a standard CAT5 patch cable between 2 machines and copy data, it is however possible using a Crossover Cable (basically same type of cable wired differently)

Google "CAT5 crossover cable" show's that they are available for £2 - £6 from various places, looks like OcUK only sell patch cables.
You would have to know how to setup the network link between the 2 machines using one of those cables or a hub/switch and patch cables, before you could copy any data.

Probably the easiest way to transfer 40GB between the 2 if you don't have an existing network setup would be using a USB HDD , assuming both machines have USB.
