My desktop is:

i5 2500k
8GB DDR3
ATI 6870 1GB
256GB Hybrid Drive

The laptop I've seen is a MSI GS70 2OD

17.3"
Intel Core i7 4700HQ
16GB RAM,
Nvidia GeForce 2GB GTX 765M
Windows 8
HDD 750GB
2 x 128GB SSD (RAID0)

Would that laptop spec be as good or if not better than my current rig?

The other laptop I've seen is a Medion Erazer X7613.

i7 4710HQ
16GB DDR
128GB SSD
1TB HDD
Nvidia 860M 2GB

I dont know much about the Medion brand or about the laptop with reviews for heat and noise that it would make.

I need the laptop to be mobile.

I need to be able to be downstairs with my dogs while I use 3DS Max to update my portfolio. I'm looking for a new job but need a new portfolio but don't want to lock myself away upstairs from my girlfriend or dogs after already being at work 8+ hours a day.

I know I can update a few bits on my current rig but I have nowhere for my rig downstairs and I know I should ideally use a Quadro or FirePro card for using 3DSMax but I cant afford a laptop with those cards in.

So for me the ideal solution is a laptop that has the same power or more power than my current rig. I don't game any more so that's not an issue. Its just for 3DSMax really.

The short answer is no, this link when you add desktop GPU + Mobile GPU's shows the GTX 860M has similar horsepower to your current GPU, also the i7 4710HQ
is slighly slower Notebookcheck GPU Notebookcheck CPU

All in all you will have a similar experience, however the laptop will have newer tech, instructions and stating the obvious smaller :)

I went onto the PassMark site for CPU charts and GPU charts and comparisons as as both the 400HQ and 765M had a higher benchmark score than my current cpu & gpu. :S

kind of worried now as I put in an offer for the MS70 and its been accepted. Would it be bad move to go through and buy that laptop, would I see a terrible performance decased even though it has SSD in Raid 0 and has 16GB RAM?

As no one is replying :( I've backed out of buying the MSI GS70 as the graphics wont be as good.

I think I will end up going for the Medion.
