i have a round port on the side of my laptop which i think is 7 pin, and id like to plug this in to an older CRT style Tv using the 3 socket things on the side of the tv.. id also like the sound to come from the tv

what is the cable i need please?

thanks

Sounds like an S-Video connector, does your TV have one? If so just buy a S-video cable, and a sound cable with a 3.5mm jack (for laptop) on one end, and the red/white connectors on the other. Will get you a pic in a mo.

Or if you dont have S-Video on your TV:

On my laptop I had S-Video, which connected to my TV's S-Video and the sound was through those white and red cables.

thanks for your help there mate but i have no clue what each plug etc does lol

i took pics on my bad camera phone, but their decent enough to get the idea

www.fisha.co.uk/tv

first one is side of tv, other 2 are laptop

In the first picture, the yellow connector is called composite (video), the red and white are just the left/right for sound. The laptop picture is a picture of an S-video input. So you need the top picture, but with a black 3.5mm jack cable on end of the red/white connector.

Ah googled for S-Video & Stereo Audio and found this:

They cost about £6

thanks mate, i just had a quick look on an auction site but cant seem to find which one it is, could you possibly email me it to my trust please?

thanks again =]

using the top google link,

i dont see how the video is transferred to the tv?

the one which looks like a headphone socket would go into the laptop soundcard? and the black 7 pin would go in to laptop for the picture, then on the other end it has the red and white things with another 7 pin.. but i thought the red and white were for sound? where does the picture come from? the tv does not have a 7 pin cheers

Oops. My other post with the 2 pictures in it, the one with the small picture is the one you would actually need, as it has the little yellow connector which would go in to the TV. Are you definatly sure though that your TV doesn't have the S-Video connector hidden somewhere?

However I cant see these anywhere.

just had a look, deffo does not have a 7 pin anywhere on it, only those in the first picture on my ftp

would the top link of a google search for

7 Pin S-Video TO TV HDTV Cable For Laptop nVidia Card

work?

cheers

ninja edit: just noticed no sound plug for laptop omggg raging

Affraid not. The red/blue/green connectors are called "component" (3 cables for video), you need composite which is just one cable for video (yellow). Component is far superior of the two in terms of picture quality.
