Hey there, was wondering if some of you guys could help me with a problem my g/f is having with her laptop. When she tries to boot the laptop up it comes into windows briefly with the messege "Windows Product Activation" - "A problem is preventing windows from accurately checking the license for this computer. error code 0x80004005". It won't let her into windows at all then shuts down. As far as I know it's an Advent laptop and it started after the found new hardware wizard came up for her video card so she used her recovery disc for the driver (without me knowing! typical woman :p) thinking she could install it herself and this is what the result is! :( Any advice would be great as she has a lot of work on there that she really wants access to!

Thanks.

Spikey.

Not sure about the error itself, but some sort of windows repair might help although i'm not sure what effect this will have on saved apps and docs.

if you get desperate you could always pull the harddrive, connect it as a slave and pull the files that way...

problem is she can't get into windows :( also no way I can pull the HDD as it will void warrenty and she wouldn't let me open it up anyway :(

Still having no luck with this, can't get into windows at all or even safe mode! How do I go about backing files up without removing the HDD bearing in mind I cannot get into windows? It's just mydocuments that have most of the stuff we need!

Just get the same msg about the license! :( I'm going to use a method a mate has suggested using linux to recover the files, hopefully it works!
