Just bought this laptop, arrived just now and whenever I attempt to install Windows, it lasts about 5 seconds on installation screen before the whole laptop shutsdown.

Any suggestions in what I can do? Technical support is just "number is busy" all the time....

Laptop: Primo Edge Mobile - 17.0" WXGA Laptop

EDIT: Now its restarting before I've even tried to reformat again.

I assuming you are running it from the mains while trying to install?

Make sure memory remapping is enabled in BIOS and maybe run Memtest86+ from UBCD.

the BIOs is very limited, i cant really do anything on it, yes im running it from the mains.

The "Advanced" has silly things like "Installed OS:" "Legacy USB Support" ...

It could be overheating, maybe place it on a cold raised surface and see if it gets any further through. It could also be a memory issue.

What OS are you trying to install? Did it come with one installed?

No it didnt come with one installed, im trying to install XP. I've tried both my 32bit and 64bit versions. Now it got half way through a 64bit and ran out of memory, said it was going to go to paging but completely stopped for about 30 minutes didnt do anything.

Now whenever I try do delete partition or format it shutsdown.

The room im doing it in is very cold and the laptop does not feel hot at all anywhere. (hotter than it should).

When I go to bios it says something like this: "Physical Memory 600", "external memory 3600" not exact figures but weird.

Now at this point I cant even press F8 to accept windows terms lol before it shuts down....

So far it is installing, i did a "full" format instead of a Quick, and its on the screen which shows the time and stuff of when it will be completed. Shame its installing 64bit when it only has 4gb ram, so quite useless but im not risking stopping it now lol

Personally I'd stick a 64bit version of Windows 7 on there. Much better than XP 64bit, but like you say, it is not worth stopping it now, see if it installs and is stable and go from there.

Even with 4Gb I'd still go down the 64bit route.

Is windows 7 64 faster than XP?

I've not even looked at windows 7 yet, I use XP on my main machine purely to avoid Vista, tho i do love XP. The only thing that would stop me testing 7 is some applications i use might not work, i'd have to check first.

Its actually up on windows screen now, going to do drivers and see how she handles, maybe it was a problem with the hard drive and that a "full" format fixed that?

Pretty much everything that works with Vista works with Windows 7 and anything that doesn't you can usually find alternatives.

I wouldn't stay Windows 7 is faster than Windows XP, but it certainly is better to look at and use than Vista or XP IMHO. Give it a go, I'm sure you can find a RC version floating about.

Laptop was completely unstable when running lol this is a nightmare, cant give this as a christmas present no more, very unhappy.

Going to try Windows 7 and see if I have much more luck.

Guessing tech support is down on christmas eve..

Yeah, download and burn UBCD. It is a great tool to have, I'd personally scan the hard drive and test the Ram first.

I was getting awful problems on this online game (Aion) which for the computer specs should not be happening since the game is not heavy on graphic power, even when I reduced settings to the minimum they could be. After contacting the support they noticed my windows version was saying my processor was: Intel(R) Pentium(R) III processor (2 CPUs), ~2.3GHz lol, of course it isnt, its Intel Core Duo 2, which the bios corrects.

As of typing this message the memory test got to about 10% (on pass) and immediately shutdown lol. Lovely.

Having crashing so many times on Windows XP 64bit I tried 32bit, full format, but didnt even last 2 seconds on installation setup lol

I tried Windows 7 as you suggested and its managed so far *touch wood*, even taken a long time and long black screens its been fine. Though stuck on the drivers section.
