Laptop updates getting annoying

On my girlfriends laptop, every time you shut it down it installs 5 updates and takes about an hour to shut down.

It has been doing this for a month and it is always 5.

I have gone into control panel to manually do any updates available but it still does it.

Any ideas how to stop it?

Google how to clear the update cache should solve the problem.
