I have a laptop with a 256MB DDR stick in it that I want to swap out for a 1GB. My research has indicated that I can't replace it with a DDR2 stick, even though they're both 200 pin sodimm...

Is that true, or could I get away with it? It's not that I want DDR2 instead, just that for some reason the 1GB DDR2 is a lot cheaper than the 1GB DDR.

It's true, the notch is in a completely different place and the sticks aren't voltage compatible etc.

Unfortunately DDR, although older, is now rare as it's not in production (= expensive). It's the reason I'm grabbing a handful of DDR2 sets when the last lot hit the clearance lines - always good to have spares :-)

Go to the crucial website and have a search on there - about the cheapest memory you can get and very stable, plus they're fast to deliver.
